With tensions between Israel and the Iranian-backed Lebanese movement Hezbollah growing by the day, Washington has warned all parties in the Middle East that the United States remains committed to pursuing a diplomatic solution.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller also restated the U.S. position in a routine briefing: “We continue to support Israel’s right to defend herself, but no one wants to see a party escalate this conflict—period.”

Deadly blasts targeting Hezbollah’s communication systems in Lebanon killed hundreds and injured more than 3,000 people, leaving Lebanese hospitals at capacity. The blasts have left a sea of panic across the Middle East.

While encouraging calm, Miller conceded America’s diplomatic efforts had limitations. “We have been active in the region for quite some time, and especially since October 7, we have been working to reduce tensions. But at the end of it all, each country and any other entity will be held responsible for its actions.”

According to an unnamed official aware of the moves, a visit scheduled by U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to Israel next week was also postponed. Miller confirmed that discussions with Israel would continue while further questions on Austin’s revised schedule were referred to the Pentagon.

“We remain engaged with our Israeli partners on this issue,” Miller added. “As publicly reported, Amos Hochstein was in Israel Monday urging de-escalation and advocating a diplomatic way out.”
The earlier episode of the week unfolded when Amos Hochstein, the White House’s Special Envoy, visited Israel to discuss the volatile situation along the northern border where Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants have been trading rocket fire for months.

Blaming Israel for the blasts of the devices, Hezbollah has called Israel “a country that has passed all red lines,” according to Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah. Officials believe Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence agency, known for its sophisticated activities on foreign soil, is behind these attacks.

On the other hand, Israel has made big claims of significant military gains in Lebanon by stating that it has eliminated top Hezbollah military chief in recent air strike on Beruit. According to media reports, number of fatalities in mysterious device exposion attack has gone pass 1000 while many more than this are reportedly injured.
